Archer was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.
His formative years
were spent in Whittier, CA.
After 3 years in the US Navy, he completed his education at Principia College, Elsah, Illinois, and received an MFA degree from The College of Arts & Crafts, in Oakland, CA.
While teaching and living in Florida, he maintained a working studio through painting and participating in the Florida Gallery Scene as well as being involved in National Art activities.
Recently retired from college teaching he, now, is actively devoting full-time to painting, exhibiting, lecturing, and museum seminars.

His
paintings/collages are widely held in private collections throughout the United
States and Europe.
In the past 10 years his work has received 4 of the top awards in the National Contemporary Painting Competition, held annually at The Society of The Four Arts, in Palm Beach, FL.
